In Ephesians 4, Paul moves from what God has done for us to how we should live in response to His grace. Since we have been seated with Christ and given a new identity and authority, we are called to walk worthy of our calling—with humility, gentleness, patience, and love.
Unity is not something we create; it is something God has already established through Christ. There is one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one Father. Our responsibility is to maintain that unity. Christ has also given diverse gifts to His people—apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers—to equip the saints, build up the body, strengthen our faith, and lead us toward maturity.
A mature church is one where each part works properly, speaks the truth in love, and submits to Christ as the head. Paul uses two images—the temple of God and the body of Christ. Both are being built, and both are growing. We build through faithful service, and God brings the growth. A strong, healthy church depends on believers who walk worthy of their calling.
