DAY 9 Strengthened for the Mission - Ephesians 3:14–21

1. SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 3:14–21
- Prayer for Spiritual Strength
14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

2. OBSERVATIONS :
- What did this passage mean to its original audience?
Chapters 1-3 say what God has done. Chapters 4-6 say how to live. This prayer sits right between them. Before Paul says, "Walk worthy" (4:1), he prays for strength to do it. The word "strengthened" here also connects to 6:10, "Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might." In chapter 3 we receive strength in prayer. In chapter 6 we stand in that strength.

Paul's own situation. Paul was sent to tell the Gentiles that they now share in God's promises as full members of one body (3:6) However, he is now "a prisoner for Christ Jesus" (3:1) and, in 6:20, "an ambassador in chains." The man with the mission looks like the weakest person in the room.

So, his prayer shows them where their strength ultimately comes from. It comes from the Father, through the Spirit, with Christ dwelling in their hearts through faith (vv. 14–17).

- What does this passage reveal about God?
  •  God is a Father of every family who hears and answers prayer (vv. 14-15).  He is the one we come to for help and strength.  Note. In Greek, "Father" (patēr) and "family" (patria) sound alike. Every true family gets its name and identity from the Father.
  •  God is Trinity at work (v. 14-17). The Father is the one asked, the Spirit strengthens us inside, and Christ lives in our hearts. All three are active in one prayer.
  • God gives us strength to fulfill His mission according to His riches (v. 16). He does far more than we can ever ask or imagine (v. 20).

- What does this passage reveal about people?
  • We are weak for the mission, so we need God's strength to fulfill His mission.
  • We cannot fulfill God’s mission on our own. Just as the Triune God works in unity, we must unite and work together as we are rooted and grounded in the love of Christ.
  • We are meant to grow together in God's family (v. 18). We grow as we love, forgive, encourage, pray for, and serve one another.

 3. APPLICATION: What does this passage impact my affections, attitudes and actions?
1. Attitudes —  I often catch myself treating ministry as a task to complete by my own strength. But Paul kneels first, and I desire to do the same. I am not enough, but God's riches are more than enough.

Just as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit work together, on this journey to fulfill His mission, I am not alone. I am deeply grateful for the fellow pastors, leaders, and saints who carry this call with me. Together 'with all the saints,' and rooted in Christ’s love, I commit to leaning into closer partnership and deeper unity with them. Teamwork makes the dream work!

2. Affections —  I want my heart to be filled with gratitude for both God’s strength and the people He has placed around me. I want to love God's family more deeply. I want to love the people I serve and minister out of the love displayed at the cross, where the width and depth of Christ's love is clearest. I want to pray for them, forgive them, and keep loving them.

3. Actions —  I will intentionally work with others, ask for help when I need it, and look for ways to encourage and strengthen them. I will also pray for the people God has placed around me.

4. PRAYER:
Dear Father,
Thank You for being my Father and for giving me strength through Your Spirit. I know I cannot fulfill Your mission by myself. Help me depend on You and work together with Your people.
Teach me to love, forgive, encourage, and serve others as part of Your family. Root me deeply in Christ's love and help me trust that You can do far more than I can imagine.
Use me and Your church for Your purpose.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
