Day 34: March 1

Matthew 13:44-58

OBSERVATIONS
—This passage comes in context of many other parables of the kingdom of heaven…wheat and weeds, mustard seeds.
—Jesus says the kingdom of heaven is like discovering treasure that’s been buried. The man sells everything to buy the field with the treasure in buried in it.
—The kingdom of heaven is like someone searching for pearls who finds a PRICELESS one, and thus sells everything to buy it.
—Everything is left in order to pursue the treasure.
—Jesus says the kingdom of heaven is like a large net…good fish separated from worthless ones.
—People scoff at and are offended by Jesus in his hometown as he teaches in the synagogue.
—Jesus withholds miracles because of their unbelief.

APPLICATION
—What earthly things will I give up to pursue Christ? Do I see the extreme value in pursing Christ? Am I holding too tightly to the things of this world?
—Who do I need to tell about Jesus before it’s too late?
—Where am I skeptical of what God is doing?

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank you for your Word. Thank you that you speak to us, and open my ears to hear what you are saying. Thank you for sending Jesus, to rescue me from my sin. Forgive me, Lord, for the times when I prioritize the material things of this world over eternal things. May I be like the man with the treasure and the merchant with the pearl, willing to give up all I have to pursue YOU and your kingdom. Help me to be bold in sharing the good news that Jesus came to save us with my friends that don’t follow you yet. May I not grow complacent and ignore that Jesus is coming back again and that Hell is real. And Lord, help me to be open to what you are doing. May I not be like Jesus’ own hometown who had hard hearts and missed out on who Jesus is. Open my eyes to see you at work and the discernment to know that it’s you. Make me more like you as I spend time with you. I love you. Amen.
