Day 36: March 3

Scripture: Matthew 14:22-36

SCRIPTURE HIGHLIGHT Matthew 14:25-27
About 3 o’clock in the morning, Jesus came toward them walking on the water. When the disciples saw Him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried it out, “it’s a ghost!” But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” He said “take courage. I am here!”

OBSERVATION
There was a severe storm in the middle of the night. It was 3 am in the morning, and the disciples had toiled all night long.  They were tired, and terrified. Then they saw a man walking on water toward them, and they panicked, they didn’t know what to do. But immediately, at the height of their terror, Jesus called out to them. He said don’t be afraid, take courage, I am here. These three commandments helped the disciples to be at peace in the midst of the storm, in the mist of their fear, doubt and discouragement. They can also help us when we apply these principles to every circumstance that comes up in our lives that attempts to pull us away from God.

APPLICATION:
  1. Don’t be afraid – over 360 times in the Bible God tells us not to fear or be afraid.  There is almost one scripture for every day to remind us not to worry or be anxious.  When doubt and discouragement try to creep at your heart for a place to stay, tell them NO! There’s no room for you. 2 Timothy 1:7 God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a strong mind.
  2. Take courage – Be strong and courageous. Ephesians 6:10 says, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. As Christians the only thing that we can take courage in is knowing that we have our heavenly Father. He is a mighty warrior; He is all we need. He has never lost a battle. He loves us dearly and will protect us at all cost. He fights our battles and gives us the victory.  All we have to do is stand strong and allow Him to do the rest.
  3. I am here – Psalm 91:1-7 says He alone is my refuge, my place of safety. He is my God and I will trust in him. He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from every deadly disease. He will cover you with His feathers.  He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.  Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrows that fly in the day.  Do not dread disease that stalks in the darkness, no disaster that strikes at midday.  Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.  Be strong knowing that God is with you, fighting your battles.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank you for Your comfort and helping us to know that You are with us in the mist of the storm.  When we’re worried, fearful, and discouraged, we know that You are with us no matter where we are.  We thank you and praise You we’re appreciative of Your love, grace and mercy. Protect us!!! In Jesus name Amen!!
